We founded The Chicken Bacon Ranch with one goal in mind: providing a high-quality, and reliable food source as close to organic/natural as possible. Having been certified organic farmers for many years we know the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to what is right and what feels right for our farm. Our passion for excellence has driven us from the beginning, and continues to drive us to where we are today. The name speaks for itself in that we have chickens, pigs and cows so I thought the name suited our farm. A multi functioning farm with very little hired help and not all our eggs in one basket, we make it work with lots of hours of blood sweat and smiles (no tears, well maybe a few) We know that every product counts, and strive to make the entire shopping experience as rewarding as possible. Check it out for yourself!
I, (Erica) started with a few laying chickens in 2016 because store eggs were subpar. Of course then I had too many eggs so the neighbour lady wanted some, then I continued increasing my flock as demand continued to escalate quickly! The opportunity to raise meat chickens came when a CSA box provider didn’t want to hassle and wanted me to raise for them, this worked out great as it was another avenue of income for the summer months, however they soon closed their doors and I was stuck with a lot of chicken and no sales, so again I started advertising and again my freezer was quickly emptied. So now I raise as many as I can in the spring/summer/fall time outside to keep up with demand. I also raise pigs, mostly farrow and sell piglets because the demand is high there for acreage people to buy them and finish themselves, but I also would love to sell more pork cuts as it is so delicious! Right now I’m trying to finish more myself for that purpose. The beef is more John’s side of the business but I help him with that too. We have a cow calf operation and send pairs off to pastures in the summer months and then the cows come home to graze on the crops we grow on the land we farm, and at calving time are home for silage/hay. Spring time is always super busy with calving season followed on its heels by spring planting and getting irrigation all ready to go. We always say in the winter we will slow down a bit but if we don’t actually schedule a week vacation it doesn’t happen because we love what we do every single day, and there is not a day that goes by that I’m not grateful to each and every one that supports our small home based business!! Thank you for reading my bio, and as we always say if we meet you in person, you are always welcome to come and check out our farm to see how we do things here!
Much love, Erica
